Applause - a peer to peer award & recognition program was launched in April 2008, giving all employees access to an online recognition cheque book. Every employee is encouraged to write specific ‘values’ cheques to colleagues that recognise excellent behaviour in accord with Sony’s values.
Information from this recognition activity is gathered on an online database. Managers are provided with passwords that enable reports to be generated highlighting key recognition activity data and evaluation against performance metrics.
Managers are also given the ability to promote outstanding recognition cheques that are deemed excellent examples of great behaviour.
Supporting collateral including colourful desk calendars, posters and values stickers act has a constant reminder and reinforce key messages. A dedicated web site enables all employees to understand the program parameters and structure. The web site is regularly updated with recognition examples and information on award winners. A live feedback page invites employee comments, encouraging participation and involvement in the ongoing development of the program.
